I've been so, so ill this past month, and I've literally baked nothing. I felt super out-of-practice, so decided to make this cake just to get back into the swing of things while I have no cakes planned.
Initially, I wanted to create a cake topper based on my first SnitchSeeker character, but creativity, it seemed, was out of the question - so instead I gave copying the figures of one of my favourite crafters/artists a go, kinda like how those who paint and draw do speed sketches as warm up exercises.(Said artist would be Sofie Skein of BonjourPoupette on Etsy.) Having a 3D figure to copy and just re-acquaint myself with the fondant was so, so useful and really helped me, mentally. So, hopefully, the original cake topper idea will happen at some point next week.
The cake itself is a rainbow layer cake - something I've not made in so long - which was fun to go back to. I wanted to give it a bit of a twist compared to usual, though, and used bananas to flavour the sponge. However, due to not being able to cut into it until my family was all here, I don't have decent enough photos of the interior to upload here. Everyone knows what a rainbow layer cake looks like, though, right?
And last, the cake stand. Isn't actually a cake stand. It's a candle stick holder, which I found in a supermarket for £3. Because this was only a little cake, I wasn't too concerned with it being super stable, so the candle stick holder is only blu tac'd to a cake board. I'm going to take a trip to a DIY store to get the stuff to properly - and permanently - attach the candle holder to a plate/wood board, so it can hold bigger cakes.
